Texas Fires Mens Head Basketball Coach Chris Beard
The University of Texas’ Vice President and Athletics Director Chris Del Conte has announced the school’s decision to “terminate” Mens Head Basketball Coach Chris Beard.
“This has been a difficult situation that we’ve been diligently working through,” Del Conte said in a statement. “Today I informed Mr. Beard of our decision to terminate him effective immediately.”
Beard, a Texas-ex who has been very successful as a coach at every stop before taking over at his alma mater in 2021, was arrested several weeks ago and charged with domestic assault, The arrest came after Beard had seemingly transformed the program into a national championship contender.
After his arrest, Del Conte named Rodney Terry as acting head coach, a position he will retain through the rest of the year.
