Sports Law Professor Gil Fried Named to National Council of Youth Sports Board of Directors
The University of New Haven and the Pompea College of Business has announced the appointment of Professor Gil Fried to the Board of Directors of the National Council of Youth Sports (NCYS).
The NCYS is the umbrella organization for numerous youth sport organizations throughout the United States. There are approximately 60 million youth sport participants in the United States whose organizations are involved with the NCYS. This includes such organizations as Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Little Scholars, park and recreation departments, YMCAs, JCC’s, and national governing bodies for almost every Olympic sport. NCYS is dedicated to identifying safety solutions and promoting healthy and fun participation in sport.
“We are so proud of Gil Fried’s lifelong support of and assistance to youth sports,” said Dr. Brian Kench, dean of the Pompea College of Business. “Before becoming an academician, Professor Fried was an attorney representing youth sports organizations, including serving as general counsel for Dixie Baseball and Softball, and he developed the initial background check process currently used by youth sport organizations across the country. His work with NCYS will bring added value to his work in the classroom at the University of New Haven.”
“I am honored to be elected by the wonderful members of NCYS to provide insight and guidance to the organization and to youth sports in general,” Fried said. “I look forward to bringing issues around youth sports into the classroom and exposing students to the different career paths available in this field.”
Professor Fried is also the Editor in Chief of Sports Facilities and the Law.
