Dr. John Malmo Named Faculty Athletics Representative
Dr. John Malmo has been appointed as the Christian Brothers University faculty athletics representative (FAR), the department announced on Friday, Aug. 5.
Malmo, who is the Chair of Management and Marketing, will serve as the liaison between the faculty and athletics department, and will work with President Archer to ensure academic integrity and the welfare of student-athletes. He will also represent CBU with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Gulf South Conference (GSC).
“Dr. Malmo’s passion for Christian Brothers University, and our student-athletes, combined with his desire to improve the student-athlete experience, makes him a natural fit for this role,” Director of Athletics Donna Crone said.
Malmo takes over for Brother Walter Schreiner who served in the position for 17 years, until his passing in February.
Malmo joined the CBU faculty in 2017, as the department chair for management, marketing and economics (now management and marketing). He currently oversees the management, marketing, sport management, international business and interdisciplinary studies programs.
A passionate martial artist, Malmo has run a martial arts school since 1994, and holds the rank of Lakan Walo (8th degree Black Belt) in Kombatan Arnis, and is a recognized Grandmaster. He was also the CEO of the Arkansas Fight League (2009-2019) and CMO of the Filipino Martial Arts Network (2009-2022).

Malmo earned his Master of Education (2013) and his Doctor of Education in Recreation and Sport Management (2016) from the University of Arkansas.
