Global Sports Advocates, a law firm exclusively devoted to the practice of sports law seeks an experienced, thoughtful, hard-working attorney with 5+ years of experience in the arbitration/trial advocacy setting who is fully devoted to becoming a leader in the field of international sports law.
Out of its office in Portland, Maine, USA Global Sports Advocates has represented clients from more than 70 different countries and more than 70 different sports before national and international sports governing bodies and the Supreme Court for international sports law, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), based in Lausanne, Switzerland.
This Senior Associate will be a zealous advocate for professional, collegiate, and Olympic athletes, as well as coaches, teams, executives, and other sports stakeholders.
About the Role
As a Senior Associate at Global Sports Advocates, you will provide solutions for athletes as well as coaches, teams, clubs, managers, agents, sports executives, and other sports stakeholders. You will play an integral role in representing clients in a variety of matters, including:
- Protecting against charges of anti-doping rule violations
- Ensuring contractual rights are protected
- Handling national and Olympic team selection and eligibility disputes
- Safeguarding against the unauthorized use of a person’s name, image, and likeness
- Drafting regulations for sport governing bodies
Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in the arbitration/trial advocacy setting. Sports law experience is preferred.
- Expertise: Admission to and good standing in the bar in a U.S. jurisdiction, with a willingness to become admitted in Maine. In-depth knowledge and experience with both U.S. and international sports law is preferred, i.e. working knowledge of the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act, NCAA regulations, the World Anti-Doping Code, the Court of Arbitration for Sport jurisprudence, IOC, FIBA and FIFA regulations, etc.
- Skills: Honesty, integrity, a strong work-ethic, and a superior ability to write and advocate in a hearing setting. Plus, an exceptional record of academic and professional success. Must be a great listener and one who is able to empathize with people who are at their most vulnerable. English fluency required; additional language proficiency (French in particular), is a plus.

- Location: Must be willing to relocate to the greater Portland, Maine area and work out of Global Sports Advocates’ waterfront headquarters.
