Business of Sports Institute Names Bowers Managing Director

The Business of Sports Institute has named Dr. Matt Bowers as its new managing director, the organization announced one the summer.

Bowers is a professor of instruction in the University of Texas Sport Management program, where he has worked for nearly two decades. His research has focused on sport and youth development. According to the institute, Bowers’ work has been featured by Sports Illustrated, The Atlantic and The Wall Street Journal. He also has advised a variety of organizations, including SXSW, Nike and the Aspen Institute. Bowers said on social media that he was honored to serve in the role and expressing enthusiasm about the institute’s future initiatives.

The appointment comes as the Business of Sports Institute continues to expand its programming and engagement within the sports industry.

“Matt joins us at a pivotal moment for BOSI,” Executive Director Kirk Goldsberry said in a statement. “He brings a rare combination of rigorous scholarship, real-world reach, and an ability to turn ideas into impact for students.” The Business of Sports Institute is affiliated with the University of Texas and focuses on education, research and industry engagement related to the business of sports.
