Herrick Sports Lawyer Receives Rising Leader Award
With one of the nation’s leading sports law practices, Herrick announced this spring that Jermaine A. Brookshire, Jr., associate in Herrick’s Corporate Department and Sports Law Group, was selected as the 2026 Recipient for the Rising Leader Award by the George W. Crawford Black Bar Association.
The Rising Leader Award “recognizes a distinguished member of the legal community who has shown leadership and commitment to Crawford’s mission through their professional, volunteer, and civic accomplishments.”
Brookshire is an associate in Herrick’s Corporate Department, where he delivers comprehensive counsel on corporate finance, strategic transactions, technology and commercial agreements, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and debt financings, securities law compliance, corporate governance, and a wide array of general corporate matters. His practice is distinguished by his compassion for his client’s needs and his ability to guide clients through complex deal structures, negotiate high-stakes agreements, and provide practical solutions to legal challenges.
Brookshire is also a member of Herrick’s Sports Law Group, representing clients in the sports industry in various corporate and transactional matters.
Before joining Herrick, he was an associate at Wiggin and Dana LLP, where he was a trusted advisor to startups and growth-stage companies in the firm’s Emerging Companies and Venture Capital Practice Group. Brookshire guided clients through entity formation, business structuring, scaling strategies, multiple financing rounds, and successful exits. His experience also extends to health care specific business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures involving health care providers and organizations.
Brookshire’s legal background is further enriched by his internship with the Yale-New Haven Health System’s Legal and Risk Services Department, where he gained hands-on experience in health care compliance and risk management, and by his service as a Senior Analyst for the Committee on Labor in the New York State Assembly, where he developed a strong foundation in legislative analysis and public policy.
