Dr. Nicholas P. Smith Named Associate Teaching Professor at Florida International University

Florida International University (FIU) has announced that Dr. Nicholas P. Smith has been promoted to Associate Teaching Professor from the Department of Counseling, Recreation, and School Psychology in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education.

This well-earned advancement reflects Dr. Smith’s “dedication to teaching excellence, impactful scholarship, and meaningful contributions to the field of sport management,” according to the school.

Dr. Smith holds a Ph.D. in Sport Management from Troy University (2024), a Master of Arts in Kinesiology (Sport Management) from Southeastern Louisiana University (2016), and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Louisiana State University (2009).

Since joining FIU in 2018, Dr. Smith has served as an Assistant Teaching Professor and Internship Coordinator, consistently demonstrating a commitment to academic rigor and student success. His teaching expertise is recognized through multiple awards, including the 2023 SRLA President’s Award and the FIU College of Arts, Sciences, and Education Award for Teaching (2019). Dr. Smith currently serves as Sport and Recreation Law Association’s (SRLA) Member-At-Large for Marketing.

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Smith’s scholarship includes numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, editor-reviewed publications, book chapters, and national conference presentations on sport law, event management, and sport volunteerism. His professional background includes over a decade of event services experience at Caesar’s Superdome and a strong record of public engagement through guest lectures at universities across the country.
