Cozen O’Connor Drops Sponsorship of Jason Kokrak After Golfer Joins LIV Golf
Law firm Cozen O’Connor has announced that it has ended its sponsorship of professional golfer Jason Kokrak, who recently announced that he was joining LIV Golf.
“For the past two years, Cozen O’Connor sponsored professional golfer Jason Kokrak. In light of Mr. Kokrak’s affiliation with the new LIV Tour, we have mutually agreed he will no longer be an ambassador for Cozen O’Connor,” wrote the firm. ” We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
The firm announced the sponsorship back in 2019. In that press release, the firm wrote:
“With its current and successful sponsorship of PGA Tour golfer William McGirt, Cozen O’Connor, one of the largest law firms in the country, announced it will also sponsor PGA Tour golfer Jason Kokrak. Kokrak, who is one of the longest hitters on tour, has multiple top 10 finishes this year including a tie for second at the Valspar Championship three weeks ago.
“Sponsoring a PGA Tour player exceeded all of our expectations,” says Michael Heller, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cozen O’Connor. “While the reaction from our clients, prospective laterals, and the business community at large was incredible, the energy and excitement of all of our colleagues around the country made it all worthwhile.”
Kokrak hails from Ontario, Canada and is currently ranked 31st in the FedEx Cup rankings. He played golf in college at Xavier University in Cincinnati, where he won the 2006 and 2007 Ohio Amateur titles. Kokrak joined the PGA tour in 2012.
“Jason is a perfect fit to wear the firm’s logo,” says Heller. “He’s driven, confident, and focused but also enjoys what he does and that shows on the course. Jason’s perseverance, dedication to being the best and his aggressive style of play match perfectly with the lawyers at Cozen O’Connor and we could not be more proud to be his newest corporate partner.”
Kokrak will be wearing the Cozen O’Connor logo on his left chest at the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, S.C., April 18-21, 2019.
McGirt, who recently had hip surgery to repair a torn labrum and will return to the tour later this year, will continue to wear the Cozen O’Connor logo.
Cozen O’Connor’s sponsorship of a PGA Tour player was a first for an AmLaw 100 firm.”
